About Me

My name is Kem-Laurin and I work as a Human Centred Design Strategist & User Researcher, and the Founder of iNNOVATION Life Labs.

I have worked in many organization spaces - from Risk Management, Diversity, Future of Work, Mobile, Senior Leadership Ideation, Web&Mobile, 3D Animation, Automation, Medical, Healthcare Informatics, Financial, just to name a few.

I am also a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Waterloo, where I focus on computed biases that inform the representations/misrepresentation of marginalized groups. My passion for this space is borne out of my work as a Design leader and researcher in technology, and an understanding of how data can shape respective outcomes for human users, often to their detriment.

With the growing politicizing of human data, my research centres on identifying the role that computed data/ AI/ Machine Learning contribute to the advancement of improved human practices and re-envisioning an evolved concept of User Experience with the one goal of Inclusive Design. This research hinges upon the premise that organizations must consider more humane ways to design for society in an ethical and sustainable manner and understanding these "biases" can help redirect the manner in which we design solutions. My passion has found a voice in my consulting firm as the Founder of iNNOVATION Life Labs, where I support a community of like-minded thinkers, peers and academic researchers.

I am also the author of the book User Experience in the Age of Sustainability, (a noted grad text worldwide) and also the holder of ten technology design patents.
